Walkloden

I only buy natural fabrics from reliable sources. I choose rich, natural colors for my capes that are reminiscent of the beauty of nature. I sew all my capes from whale loden (100% wool). Wool has a special energy. It is durable and products made from it can last for decades. Loden is traditionally used wherever robust and weatherproof clothing is required. It is therefore also ideal for adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts. No wonder, because loden garments are generally very durable and keep you warm.

  • Windproof. The tight fabric structure and the warming properties of wool ensure optimum windproofness. Depending on the thickness of the fabric, this is maintained up to comparatively high wind forces.

  • Water repellent. Loden is traditionally produced without the addition of chemicals. This preserves the natural wool grease, lanolin, in the fabric. This in turn means that loden clothing has difficulty absorbing water and therefore remains pleasantly dry on the inside, even in light drizzle, for example.

  • Resistant to dirt. But the wool lanolin can do even more. It also makes it difficult for dirt to be absorbed by the fabric. So if loden fabrics are used for outdoor activities, this has a positive effect on the overall condition, especially in rougher conditions.

  • Temperature-regulating and breathable. As already mentioned, loden is a natural product. Wool is naturally warming. The tightly woven structure also allows the body’s own warmth to be retained where it is needed. In addition, the special structure of the fabric can absorb a certain amount of water vapor, such as that produced by sweating, allowing it to be transported away in a targeted manner.

  • Resistant. The elaborate processing of the new wool, the fulling, not only makes the loden more resistant and warmer, but also extremely water-repellent. Due to the fabric structure of the loden, a regular and controlled heat balance takes place, creating a microclimate zone on the body.

Care instructions

Loden fabrics have excellent self-cleaning properties. Loden is a natural antiseptic. As a rule, they should not be washed or only rarely. Woolen fabrics are sensitive to friction, which causes them to become matted/compacted, making them fluffier and smaller than you might need. You should therefore preferably air your piece thoroughly first instead of washing it.

  • Simply hang your laundry up in the bathroom after showering or hang it out in a sheltered place in the fresh air at night. The humidity will remove all odor particles from the fabric

  • You can brush out coarse dirt as soon as it is completely dry. As long as mud and the like are still wet, you will only work everything deeper into the fabric.

  • If none of this has helped, it’s perfectly possible to wash whale fabrics. The trick is to move the fabric as little as possible. Rubbing and wringing are taboo. Let the fabric cool down in peace, squeeze it gently between two towels and NEVER hang it directly on the radiator. Dry it gently, lying on a towel.
